Day: Thu, 7 Nov2013
On 17 October 2013, I celebrated my 55th birthday. In reflecting upon the first 54 years of life and looking forward to the start of a new chapter, I have become more determined than ever before to live a purposeful life – a life that is used as an influence for good in the world. I become more convinced with each passing day that this life is not all about me. It has never been all about me. I humbly attempt to do the things that I do, being ever mindful of whose I am, and to whom all glory, honor, and praise should be given. If I have achieved any success in the first 54 years of my mortal life, it is because of Him, the One who gives and sustains life, and not through any merits of my own. I pray that I may always let any praises and accolades in my life come from the lips of another and not mine own, for truly I have nothing to boast of, but everything to be thankful for.
And so I am on a quest. My mission in life from this moment forward to emulate the life of the Savior by being more loving, more patient, more kind, more understanding, more considerate, and being of greater service to my fellow-man in whatever way I can – through words and/or through unselfish deeds – all the while being humble and obedient to the will of my Father in Heaven. It is my desire to be a blessing to others, and not just expect blessings to be showered upon me. I am beginning to understand more and more that the greatest blessings in life come from blessing the lives of others. As those we help and serve are blessed, we are blessed, sometimes in untold ways, in return. It is a certainty, we reap exactly what we sow in life.
It is truly humbling to me to receive such comments as the following from people from different parts of the world as I have used the talents that God has given me to share my thoughts through different social media venues:
|“Keith, Thank you for your great articles and wisdom. Keep it up!”
“I hope it’s a great year with all kinds of new and inspiring posts. I love reading your thoughts on the world. Makes me feel less alone in the way I think there are good people left in the world and you are one of them”
“You inspire me all the time with your posts which unlike many others, I know your messages are sincere and sent with love!”
“I’m so happy that you enjoyed your birthday, and may I add my sincere wishes that your prayer will be answered. You truly are a child of God, you are caring, sincere, loving and gracious, just a few of the attributes of our beautiful Savior. Your posts are truly inspiring and lovely. Keep doing what you are doing and you will receive many more blessings, to add to the ones you already have. God bless you Keith and take care.”
“I look forward to your post each day. I enjoy reading what you have to say. I rarely comment because I don’t feel that I have anything to add to the conversation. The one thing that I love about your posts and articles is that you believe in keeping it real!”
““I don’t know why I called you, but you were heavy on my mind and I felt that I needed to call you and let you know that there is something special about you. God has a special work that He needs for you to do. I am not sure where or when that work will take place, but you are the one who has been chosen, and He is now preparing you to do that work. You are a leader and your voice will be heard. God has definitely called you to make a difference in the world!” – Conversation with my brother-in-law a few months ago.
My heartfelt prayer is that as I begin this new chapter of life, this chapter will be a more interesting read than the last, and that each new chapter of life that the Lord may allow, will be better than the one before. For, I am more determined and convinced now, than ever before, that if I cannot pass through this life making even the smallest of difference in the lives of those whose paths I cross, or if I cannot be an influence for good in the world, than in my humble estimation, my living is in vain.
I sincerely hope and pray that during the first 54 years of my life I have made a difference somewhere, or that I have helped some weary traveler on their journey through life. I also pray that the fire that burns within me will never die out, but that it will always give warmth to those in need of comfort, and be a light that shines as a beacon to help guide someone who may have lost their way, or just in need of someone to be their friend.
